Our Technology: Research and Development

Multiple production systems and multiple genotypes are required to fill consumers' demand for year-round availability of fresh strawberries. However, environmental conditions and temperature limit the time strawberries can be grown in a geographic region to one to two months per year.  

USDA's Agricultural Research Service and TerraSphere are involved in a collaboration to develop new, controlled-environment production systems that incorporate novel ARS technologies for propagation of clean, pest-free strawberry transplants for year-round strawberry production.
